When Disaster Strikes the Mid Hudson Valley, Public Adjusters are here to Help

The recent storm event that swept through the Hudson Valley, specifically Orange County, Putnam County, Westchester County, and Dutchess County New York.  This has left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Heavy rainfall and ferocious flash flooding overnight into Monday, July 10, 2023, have resulted in at least one fatality and caused an estimated tens of millions of dollars in damages. The storm dumped nine inches of rain in some areas, leading to a state of emergency declaration in two counties by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

From the collapsed roadway along Route 32 in the Hudson Valley near Cornwall, N.Y., where a damaged car lay, to the stranded cars in standing flood water along Thayer Road on the United States Military Academy campus at West Point, the aftermath of the storm is a stark reminder of the power of nature.

In Highland Falls, N.Y., volunteers checked vehicles damaged by floodwaters for potential victims, while in Cornwall-On-Hudson, roads were damaged after heavy rainfall. The northeastern United States was inundated with heavy rain and flooding across several states a day after storms and flash floods washed out highways and claimed a life in New York state.

As residents, journalists, and emergency service workers walk around the flooded Main Street in Highland Falls, N.Y., the question on many people’s minds is, “What next?”

If you’re a home or business owner who has sustained damages from this storm event, it’s crucial to know that help is available. This is where a public adjuster comes in.

Public adjusters are professionals who are trained to assess property damage, prepare an estimate, read policy coverages, and negotiate with your insurance company. They work solely for you, the policyholder, not the insurance company. They can help you navigate the often complex and stressful process of filing a claim and ensure you receive the compensation you’re entitled to under your policy.

In the aftermath of a disaster like this, it’s common for homeowners and business owners to be overwhelmed. Dealing with property damage, loss of possessions, and the emotional toll of a disaster is challenging enough without having to navigate the complexities of insurance claims.

Public adjusters can take this burden off your shoulders. They’ll handle the time-consuming and often frustrating process of dealing with your insurance company. They’ll ensure that your claim is thoroughly and accurately documented, negotiate the claim on your behalf, and strive to get you a fair and equitable settlement.

If you’ve suffered property damage due to the recent storm, don’t hesitate to contact a public adjuster. They’re here to help you recover and get back on your feet as quickly as possible. Remember, in times of disaster, you don’t have to face the recovery process alone.
